Redskins Add Two Free Agents
Gamble & Smith join DC
The Washington Redskins added two valuable free agents this off-season when they secured former Colts offensive guard Walt Gamble and former Steelers cornerback Antonio Smith to multi year deals. The signings didn't come at no expense, with the Redskins farewelling long serving defensive tackle Vaughn Martin who spent nine seasons in D.C. recording fifty sacks.
Walt Gamble was drafted thirty-fifth overall in the 2015 draft by the Indianapolis Colts. He started all four seasons and quickly progressed into a quality lineman. Gamble will add much needed talent on the interior of the Redskins line.
Antonio Smith was drafted sixty-fourth overall in the same draft, by the Chicago Bears. He spent two seasons in Chicago until he was traded to Pittsburgh where he has spent the past two years. A talented corner who has also shown he is ready to be a starter in this league. He also has great hands which have seen him record fourteen interceptions and he will be looking to add more as a member of the Redskins.
By securing Smith, the Redskins have agreed to a trade with the Carolina Panthers. Which sees fan favourite, cornerback Alan Morris moving to the Panthers. Drafted eleventh overall in the 2011 draft, Morris has been a cornerstone of the Redskins defence for the better half of a decade. He has recorded twenty-seven career interceptions and registered six touchdowns. In exchange for Morris, Washington will receive the sixty-second overall pick in the upcoming draft.
